GOING POSTAL
April 15, 2006. 12:15 PM

I found my apartment's mailbox in pieces on our steps last night when I returned from my third week away. As always, the Post Office left an attempt at a note, a week's worth of my mail in a pile on the floor. No problem, since I don't get much mail and as long as I get all my important stuff I don't care how it gets to me. Then I went to the Post Office and asked about it, got sent to a different Post Office to find that they aren't holding my mail as indicated by the note, and that they shouldn't deliver it without a working mailbox. Here's a postal etiquette question for you: everyone knows you have to wait in line at the Post Office, but what if you're waiting in line and get to the front, only to find you don't have the proper forms filled out when you get there. You then get out of line and let someone else through, but then when you're done filling out the forms do you then go back to the end of the line? Or do you jump back into the same window you just left, in front of the line?

Also in other news, some of my Sea Scout pictures have been published in this month's Spinsheet magazine in an article about my Sea Scout Ship up in Columbia. Also in the article are some good quotes and stories from the members of our Ship. Grab a copy at your local boating store or marina. Or just ask me for one.

ONE WEEK IN THE L.P.
April 2, 2006. 2:15 PM

I'm back from my first of five weeks of work in Southern Maryland, in a small town called Lexington Park. We're working out of a facility right on the bay, our office is in a trailer on a jetty overlooking the Chesapeake. Its my first experience with work-related travel, and while its nice to be close enough to come home on the weekends, I really enjoy getting away from my office. Its also nice that the weather is cooperating lately, although I wouldn't mind a little rain sometime. DC is a big dust bowl this weekend, with the huge crowds tramping around to see the Cherry Blossoms and the pollen in full swing, plus the lack of rain. Not that I'm complaining. Oh, and Melanie says to make sure I write about the daffodils because they're her favorite and they're everywhere lately. I'm just happy its warm, and baseball season starts tonight.
