A HOKIE WEEKEND
August 31, 2006. 11:35 PM

Have you checked this lately?

The Chinese characters that most closely resemble the the sound of "Coca-Cola" translate roughly to "bite the wax tadpole". No kidding.

QUICK UPDATE
August 12, 2006. 9:35 PM

Quite a week here, but this weekend has finally opened up some time to just kick it. If you get the chance, the movie Talladega Nights is quite a stitch. Go see it. Also the National Zoo is a nice place to walk through on a Saturday morning before the crowds, and its free.

I got some new picture pages up: Mom and Garry's Wedding and Sea Base 2006. Go see them.

GUESS WHO'S BACK
August 2, 2006. 9:35 PM

Its the time of year when everything starts to catch up with itself. My vacation last week was a Sea Scout trip scuba diving in the Florida Keys, and it went very well. Melanie and the six scouts she and I took along all passed their dive certifications, plus we got to spend some time wandering around Key West, the first time I'd been back since I left my job there four years ago. Not much has changed, its still got the old-town charm, though its easy to tell that the cruise ship companies, MTV, and the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles have started to dump money into the scene there. Still a very nice and friendly place to visit, if you don't mind the heat in the summer. Incredibly, our trip from Islamorada, in the middle keys, back home to Baltimore took 15 hours once you factor in the rental cars, waiting, a layover, and delays. It would be almost faster to drive it.

Last night Bret and I ventured out into what we determined was a "stupid hot" evening to sit on the lawn at Wolftrap for the Guster concert. Great show as always, and we rate Wolftrap an A+ concert venue for its uncanny ability to get people out of the parking lots without stopping. Nissan Pavilion, where I'm headed tomorrow night, needs to take lessons from the Wolftrap people. I don't expect to be out of the parking lot after tomorrow night's Jimmy Buffett show until well after 1 AM, since the concert will probably end at about 10:30. We're bringing a cooler of snacks for after the show.

I have a ton of pictures on the way, but don't hold your breath. They'll be up whenever I have time. As always, thanks for checking in.
