Back to gerritt.net MERRY CHRISTMAS!! December 22, 2005. 9:45 PM
-G * Email Gerritt WASHINGTON TO NEW YORK VIA VIRGINIA December 13, 2005. 9:40 PM Bret and I made the trip up to New York City this weekend to visit Daryl and see a Dave Matthews show at Madison Square. Our journey involved some tricky ticketing and a bit of sneaking, but we were able to score a round-trip train ride on Amtrak for a really good price. Our first train was nearly three hours late, and we had to talk our way on at Union Station because our tickets said Alexandria. On the way home it was easy, we just slipped out while the train was changing engines at Union Station. What kind of train stops in DC but doesn't discharge passengers? The Silver Meteor, that's who! In New York we took a trip to the City Museum, with a great video about the history of the city, and walked the shops around Canal Street. Then Bret and I headed off to watch the DMB show at MSG. Confetti canons blaring, and with special guest Robert Randolph playing the pedal steel guitar, it was another great set. Pictures are now online from Lisa and Tromaine's Wedding and last weekend's New York trip. -G * Email Gerritt THANKFUL BALL CACHE BOAT GALAXY MUSHROOM CALENDAR December 2, 2005. 4:25 PM Last week was Thanksgiving, a wonderful time with lots of things to do. Lisa, my step-sister, was married in a very nice ceremony on Friday. That was sandwitched by huge family feasts on Thursday and Saturday, so by Sunday I could barely move. So nice to have these things to be thankful for. The Hokies are headed to the ACC championship game tomorrow as 14-point favorites, ready to take on Florida State. Daryl and I got to go Geocaching for the first time last week, borrowing the GPS from our Dad's boat. Interestingly, the guy who started the geocaching.com phenomenon on the internet, Jeremy Irish, is married to one of my former Sea Scout leaders, Samsi; they live in Seattle. It is so cold on my boat now that I've started taking showers at the clean and warm marina facilities, and I've begun carrying a towel around in my car. I feel like Arthur Dent from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, except for all that traveling through time and space. The first chocolate in my advent calendar was shaped like a mushroom. I wonder what that's supposed to symbolize? Its unbearably tempting to just eat all of the chocolates in it right now. But I won't. I'll wait and eat one each day until Christmas. Maybe I should just go buy twenty-four more advent calendars. . . -G * Email Gerritt |
