June 25, 2005 Just got off the phone with Skip, sounds like they had a wonderful day. With the wind direction this morning they sailed right out of their mooring. They had steady winds all day and were able to make 2.5 to 4.5 knots. They also saw bald eagles nesting and fish schooling and rockfish swimming by the boats. Everyone took their turns sailing and they have been honing their skills very well. They pulled into the Bohemia River and met up with Ship 759 at around 2:30 this afternoon. They were able to sail all the way in until the last minute to tie up to Longrider which was already anchored. They have rafted up in Veasey Cove which is at Lat 39 28', Long 75 55'. Since they are in fresh water they've spent the late afternoon swimming and diving for clams. They have almost a bushel of clams, which is very tempting to cook up, but I guess they don't want to risk illness, so they won't. They've identified a new way to get the guys to shower. The girls sat on Longrider and offered to shampoo the boys hair while they were in the water, so supposedly all the guys got their hair washed (maybe more than once!) They've been working on advancement quite heavily, (and even wanted Skip to get off the phone with me to sign them off) so it looks like we'll have some rank advancement when they return. The music was playing in the background and it seems that they were dancing on Longrider, playing cards and games and having a wonderful time. Bob Karl has finished up the bimini top for Resolute, so they're enjoying the shade. Tomorrow their headed up the C+D canal and are planning to restock in Delaware City. Sounds like a good time is being had by all.
