June 26, 2005 Ahoy all parents and friends. It seems that our shipmates once again have had a wonderful day. They motored up the C+D canal, and with the tides, they easily traveled 7 knots. After their third day out, they have finally docked for some well deserved shore leave at Delaware City, with a chance to try out their sea legs and re-supply. Or maybe even to get a well needed shower! I think they all even wanted to take them! They had a cookout with some burgers and dogs, fruit salad, etc. After dinner they took to the streets to find an ice cream shop. Supposedly, the kids all told the person at the ice cream shop that the last guy at the end of the line was paying. When the last guy (Skip) got to the end of the line, he denied knowing a one of them. In Laurie's usual manner, I'm sure it was a hoot (after he paid of course). After the ice cream it seems that they had an impromptu dance contest, girls vs. boys in the center of town. I'm not sure if there were any declared winners, I only got word that grass stains were commonplace... Which leads me to laundry. It appears that all the scouts have figured out that they "can do laundry!" I know for some parents that may come as a shock, but Sea Scouting is supposed to teach a variety of skills. Of course I didn't say that the clothes were clean, or the same size for that matter... Tomorrow will be an early day for our crew. They need to finish their journey to Philadelphia to Penns Landing tomorrow. They also will be fighting the tide leaving Delaware City, which per Skip will be interesting. Supposedly the tide drops 7 ft at Delaware City, so that will present some challenges that our able crews surely can tackle. That's all for now...
